About Fieldroot Retreat
A small place with a big reason for being.
A small place with a big reason for being.
Fieldroot Retreat was born from a simple feeling: the world moves too fast, and we all need somewhere to stop.
We found this quiet corner of East Yorkshire — a few acres of meadow, hedgerows, and big open sky near the village of Barmby Moor, just outside York — and knew it was the place. Not to build something grand, but to create something honest. Three bell tents, each with space for two, tucked into the landscape and designed to help you breathe again.
There are no flashing screens, no packed itineraries, no children running between pitches. Just birdsong, firelight, and the kind of silence that lets you hear yourself think. We built Fieldroot for couples, friends, and solo travellers who want to step away from the noise and return to something simpler.
Everything here is deliberate. The welcome hamper filled with Yorkshire produce. The firepits that invite you to sit and stay a while. The absence of WiFi that isn't a bug — it's the whole point. We want your stay to feel like coming home to a place you didn't know you were missing.
Modern life is relentless. Fieldroot is the opposite. No check-in kiosks, no rush, no schedule. Arrive at one, leave at eleven, and fill the hours in between with absolutely nothing — or everything. We believe the best holidays are the ones where you lose track of the day.
Three bell tents. Six guests. That's it. We will never expand beyond what this piece of land can comfortably hold. Staying small means every guest gets the quiet, the space, and the attention they came for. It means we know your name, not your booking number.
We take our responsibility to this land seriously. Our bell tents are designed to sit gently on the earth. We use local suppliers wherever possible, minimise waste, and let the meadow grow wild. The wildflowers, the bees, the hedgehogs — they were here first, and we intend to keep it that way.
Barmby Moor sits in the quiet countryside between York and the coast. It's not a famous destination — and that's exactly why we love it. The fields stretch out in every direction, the sunsets are extraordinary, and on a clear night you can see more stars than you thought possible.
This is working countryside, not a theme park. You'll hear tractors in the distance, see pheasants in the hedgerows, and smell woodsmoke on the evening air. It's real, and it's beautiful.
Fieldroot is exclusively for adults. No children, no dogs — just peace and quiet. We made this choice deliberately, because we believe grown-ups deserve places that are designed entirely for them.
Whether you're here as a couple celebrating an anniversary, two friends who need to catch up properly, or a solo traveller who just needs to be alone with the sky — this space is yours.
Three bell tents, two guests each, one beautiful corner of Yorkshire.
